Tarrant County commissioners were in session on Tuesday with two notable absences: Commissioners Alissa Simmons and Roderick Miles Jr.

It meant no quorum and no vote on a tax rate cut.

“They basically took money out of the pockets of homeowners and businesses. For what purpose?’ asked Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare.

Simmons said in a statement that she’s supported tax rates below the no new revenue rate before but this one goes too far.

“I support tax cuts that are honest and compassionate—that cut fat, not bone—and that protect both your pocketbook and your community,” Simmons said.

Miles issued a statement echoing the same sentiment.
