COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Robert Redford, the Oscar-winning actor, director, and visionary force behind independent cinema, passed away Tuesday at his home in Sundance, Utah. He was 89. His publicist, Cindi Berger, said he died surrounded by those he loved. No cause of death has been announced.
Redford burst onto the screen in the 1960s and ’70s with roles that made him an icon: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Candidate, All the President’s Men and The Way We Were. Over time, his career evolved beyond acting. In 1980, he earned the Best Director Oscar for Ordinary People, a film that also won Best Picture.
