Northern Territory police have arrested a man over the death of his female partner overnight, after she was found unresponsive in a suburban front yard.

In a statement, NT Police said it received reports around 10:30pm Tuesday that a woman was unresponsive in the front yard of a home in Driver, a suburb in Darwin's satellite city of Palmerston.

"Emergency services attended the scene and a 31-year-old woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased," a police spokesperson said.

NT Police said the 32-year-old male partner of the woman was arrested at the scene and remained in police custody on Wednesday morning.

A crime scene remains in place while detectives from both the Domestic Violence and Major Crime commands investigate.
