HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- WNIN Tri-State Public Media announced layoffs following the loss of federal and state funding on September 16.

According to WNIN, 5 staff positions will be eliminated and some remaining employees will be reorganized. WNIN says that several programs will also be cut at the beginning of October and will continue until the end of 2025.

WNIN says the decision comes after the approved 2026 budget reflected a $1.5 million dollar loss after federal and state funding cuts. One of the cuts includes the Rescissions Bill, which claws back more than one billion dollars for the corporation of public broadcasting.

WNIN says since the news of the funding cuts began in the spring, local donors gave $345k to WNIN from April through August, double the amount of local donor revenu
