OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — Owning chickens in Owensboro has gotten one step closer to reality. City commissioners met to discuss approving multiple ordinances, but one that opened up a debate between commissioners and residents was the ordinance allowing chickens.

From property taxes to property maintenance, city commissioners has their hands full. But for some residents in attendance, they wanted to make sure commissioners took a good look at a proposed ordinance involving backyard chickens.

"Historically we have not allowed backyard chickens in the city," City Manager Nate Pagan said. "Our elected officials were open to having that conversation and I did some research.
