The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted former New England Patriots linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley for a visit on Tuesday, according to the NFL transaction wire. Bentley spent seven seasons with the Patriots and is still just 29 years old.

An old-school thumper, he could be the exact type of linebacker the Steelers are searching for after their run defensive struggles in the first two weeks of the season.

A Purdue alum, Bentley was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and served as a core special teamer before being elevated to starter as he got older.

Over his career, he has 509 tackles, two interceptions, 1 pass deflections, and 10.5 sacks. He played in just two games a year ago after suffering a torn pectoral muscle. The Patriots released Bentley in March.
