After being voted down earlier this month, an emergency rent relief program that will help survivors displaced by the January wildfires as well as families on the brink of homelessness due to immigration raids, was approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

In a unanimous, 5-0 vote, the supervisors amended the failed original motion from Sept. 2, adding not $10 million but $20 million over the next two fiscal years, for a total fund of about $30 million.

The board also agreed to ask the county counsel to explore an eviction moratorium ordinance for those impacted by federal immigration raids in L.A. County. A presentation will be made before the board on Oct. 7.
