PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Valley Metro’s light rail operators are considering a strike over concerns about working conditions, and now Arizona’s Family has learned about similar claims being made by the transit operator’s bus drivers.
The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), which represents the agency’s light rail operators, voted 98% to authorize a strike. However, it’s still unclear if one will occur.
Bus drivers who also work for Valley Metro say they, too, are experiencing a poor work environment. Many of the complaints are similar: equipment not working, limited breaks, and chairs that hurt the drivers’ backs.
One Valley Metro driver, who wants to remain anonymous, plans to quit over these issues. The driver said the conditions are draining to the drivers and unsafe.
“There are a lot o
