PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The number of Arizonans removing themselves from the organ donor registry is on the rise, and some say it could put lives at risk.

Katie Sarten, 35, is living proof that organ donations save lives. The Gilbert woman has undergone two life-saving liver transplants.

“My first donor allowed me to grow up, attend high school, go to college, study abroad, meet my husband and continue to make memories with my family,” said Sarten.

She knows firsthand the difference organ donors can make and says she was extremely disappointed to hear that the number of organ donors in Arizona has dropped significantly over the past few months.
