The man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk is being charged with seven counts, including aggravated murder.

Prosecutors announced the charges against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and unveiled new details in the case on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the suspect's first court appearance. The judge said he would appoint a lawyer for Robinson. Advertisement

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said he would file a notice to seek the death penalty, a punishment President Donald Trump has called for in the wake of the shooting.

"I do not take this decision lightly," Gray said during a press conference. "It is a decision I have made independently as county attorney based solely on the available evidence and circumstances and nature of the crime."
