PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- A public health advisory has been issued for Pontoosuc Lake in Berkshire County. Officials said a blue-green algae bloom was found in the lake.

The public is advised to avoid the lake at all access points in Pittsfield and Lanesborough. An algal bloom poses a health risk to both humans and pets.

As part of the health advisory, people should not swim, drink, or play water sports in the water. Animals should also not be allowed to swim or drink the water. If you come in contact with the lake water, you should rinse off in clean water.
