MCGREGOR, Texas — Months after being sent to a state mental hospital, the man accused in a 2022 McGregor mass shooting has been ruled competent to stand trial.
Doctors at the San Antonio state hospital say Nicolas Jaimes-Hernandez, 37, is now mentally fit to face charges related to the September 2022 shooting that left five people dead.
Jaimes-Hernandez is accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Monica Delgado, 15-year-old Miguel Avila, 14-year-old Natalie Avila, 47-year-old Lorena "Lori" Aviles and 20-year-old Natalie Aviles on Sept. 28, 2022.
Jaimes-Hernandez's attorney says he believes the competency test is wrong.
