PITTSBURGH — After his gaffe on a kickoff return that marked a major turning point in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 31-17 loss to Seattle on Sunday, rookie running back Kaleb Johnson “probably” won’t be returning kickoffs against New England on Sunday, coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.

Johnson failed to cover a Jason Myers’ kickoff early in the fourth quarter against the Seahawks. The ball hit near the 10-yard line and bounced into the end zone. Per the NFL’s new dynamic kickoff rule, any ball that lands in the “landing zone” — between the receiving team’s goal line and 20-yard line — must be returned or downed. If not, it’s a live ball.
