KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — City councilmembers held their regularly scheduled council meeting at the City-County Building to an audience a fraction the size of others in recent weeks on Tuesday evening.

They continued to focus on public land, however, shifting their attention to the future of the Gay St. Bridge, a rail-to-trail project in South Knoxville, and other issues.

Councilmembers voted 7-0, Councilmember Gwen McKenzie was absent, to allow other city leaders to apply for a grant from the Federal Highway Administration.

According to documents from the city, the Bridge Investment Program Planning Project Grant could bring in up to $800,000 from the federal government to pay for an assessment will determine how leaders could repair, or replace, the bridge in the future. The city would mat
