Tamworth, it's time to have a heart-to-heart discussion.

We have a problem: public health data shows 4.8 per cent of our residents live with heart disease, and that figure is well above the national average of 3pc.

Member for New England Barnaby Joyce, who had a much-publicised brush with prostate cancer earlier this year, has encouraged locals to be more proactive when it comes to their health , particularly when it comes to matters of the heart.

The 58-year-old made the comments while taking a free 10-minute heart health check in front of the media on Wednesday, September 17. The check was offered by specialists from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI) at HCF Tamworth.
