An Australian tech millionaire has snapped up a $36m luxury beachfront home just south of Byron Bay and neighbouring a mega mansion owned by Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky.

Karen Cariss, who co-founded recruitment platform PageUp in 1997, set a Byron Bay region record after purchasing the lavish resort-style compound, according to The Australian Financial Review.

The 22-acre property, called Ohana House, sits nearby Seven Mile Beach where about 450 metres of beach frontage is accessible.

It features a series of luxury pavilions that can host 28 people alongside a hotel-style pool that extends into a lap pool.

Ohana House has a half basketball court, a concrete table tennis table, an in-ground trampoline, a skate ramp, a feng shui sand garden and an alpaca and chicken pen.
