After nearly two decades of importing equipment and ingredients and exporting beer, Hoppin' Frog Brewery is experiencing financial pressure from U.S. foreign relations.
Because of tariffs, costs are now higher for cans made with aluminum — imported from Canada — and for hops and barley — imported from brokers who source from countries such as the Czech Republic, Germany and England, said Fred Karm, owner and brewmaster at the 19-year-old business.
