Miami Dolphins great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino has been dealing with liver disease since 2007, he revealed in a new interview.

The nine-time Pro Bowler spent his entire playing career with the Dolphins, from 1983 to 1989. Marino led the Dolphins to a Super Bowl appearance in the 1984 season, where they lost to Joe Montana’s dynastic San Francisco 49ers.

Marino kept his body and health in excellent shape to sustain a lengthy and successful NFL playing career. But in 2007, seven years after announcing his retirement, Marino received terrible health news from doctors.
