Indulge us in a thought experiment.

Which of the following rhetorical offenses should result in lost employment: A. telling a national audience that the way to address ideological disagreements is to "just … beat the hell out of them"; B. declaring to a cable news audience that mentally ill homeless people should be subject to "involuntary lethal injection"; or, C. saying on your own social media account that you're drinking a toast to a political assassination?

If you said all three are despicable expressions, we'd agree. But if you somehow conclude that the first two are acceptable public discourse while only the last is grounds for dismissal, you're going to have to explain that rationale.
