A person is dead and a suspect is in custody following a late Tuesday night shooting in Greenwood.

First responders were called to the 800 block of Dover Drive on a report of a person shot at 10:17 p.m. Tuesday. This is inside Westminister Apartments, off County Line Road across from Community South Hospital.

One person, who has not yet been identified, died from a gunshot to the head. Assistant Chief Matt Fillenwarth described this person as being “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The suspect initially fled the scene but was taken into custody as of 5 to 5:30 a.m. this morning, Fillenwarth said. The yet-to-be-identified suspect was arrested at the InTown Suites Extended Stay hotel off Interstate 70 and Post Road in Indianapolis, he said.
