CHARLESTON — Two new peninsula restaurants from successful local operators have set opening dates.

Each will bring Indian and Italian food, respectively, to the Cannonborough-Elliottborough neighborhood of downtown when they debut over the next few weeks.

Rivayet , from the owners who brought Mount Pleasant Spice Palette, will serve food from Southern and Northern India when it opens Sept. 18. The new restaurant, located in the 210 Rutledge Ave. space previously occupied by Makan, will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.

Owner Sujith Varghese told The Post and Courier in June that the strong local response to Spice Palette emboldened him to expand. He described Rivayet as an upscale restaurant that would speak to his roots in Kerala, India.
