Police are treating two shootings just streets apart in north Manchester as linked, they have confirmed.

Officers were called to Ainthorpe Walk in Newton Heath at 9.55pm last night to a 'suspected firearms discharge.'

A man suffered 'minor injuries' to his head. Exactly what caused the injuries is being investigated, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

A cordon has been in place since and what appears to be a bullet hole can be seen in the window of a property.

Locals said the property was home to a couple and their young son.

In an update issued this afternoon (Wednesday), GMP said that 'it is not believed that the man or the address were the intended target.'
