CHARLESTON — A now-suspended Charleston magistrate's federal charges for possessing illicit images of exploited children may prompt reviews of cases he was involved in.
Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said the apparent admissions by James B. Gosnell Jr. to federal agents about where they could find child sexual abuse materials in his home raise questions about his judgment from the bench.
“We will review our cases to ensure there has been no adverse or even questionable impact on any of our cases,” Wilson said.
Gosnell, who is not a lawyer, presided primarily over preliminary hearings in Charleston County, determining if prosecutors could proceed with cases against people accused of crimes. As a magistrate he could also decide who may be granted bond and decide if law enforc
