DES MOINES, Iowa —
A woman wanted in California for assault with a firearm and vehicle theft has been charged with attempted murder for a shooting in Des Moines.
Police say Maria Tafolla, 29, shot her 44-year-old boyfriend inside a home in the 2100 block of Washington Avenue on Sept. 7 and left the scene.
According to a criminal complaint, Tafolla fired one shot in the Des Moines incident; the bullet went through the man's arm and struck him in the chest. He was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
Court documents say the victim and another witness identified Tafolla as the shooter.
Officers spotted her walking in the 1800 block of Hickman Road around 6 p.m. Tuesday and took her into custody. She is currently being held in Polk County Jail.
