The Washington Commanders are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Preston Smith to a one-year deal. Deatrich Wise suffered a season-ending quad injury, and now Smith is back with the team that drafted him.

The Commanders hosted Smith on Tuesday for a workout to see where he was at, and he has not tried out elsewhere before this. Smith was released by the Steelers in February after a largely uneventful second half of the season.

Smith was acquired for just a seventh-round pick from the Green Bay Packers, but he did not make many plays when he was out there. With the Steelers, he had just two sacs, three tackles for loss, and 13 total tackles in a rotational role off the edge.
