KEENE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released its weekly "DEC Forest Rangers - Week in Review," covering forest ranger missions from September 7 through September 13. During that period, rangers rescued an injured 74-year-old Queensbury man from a valley in Keene.
Authorities were dispatched to the hiker's location at the Slant Rock lean-to in John's Brook Valley at about 10:50 a.m. on September 13. The 74-year-old reportedly had a knee injury.
Due to the remote location, a New York State Police helicopter had to lower two forest rangers at the John's Brook Outpost landing zone, about two miles away from the hiker. At about 3:20 p.m., the officials reached the 74-year-old and determined that a helicopter rescue was needed.
