SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon Senate is delaying a crucial vote on transportation investments to ensure Sen. Chris Gorsek (D-Gresham) can participate, according to state legislative officials.

Oregon Senate officials said that the decision follows medical advice that it would be unsafe for Sen. Gorsek to leave the hospital after complications from back surgery. The vote, originally set for Sept. 17, will now take place during interim legislative days from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

Senate President Rob Wagner (D-Lake Oswego) emphasized the importance of the bill for Oregonians and the need for Sen. Gorsek's presence. Gov. Tina Kotek (D-Ore.) has postponed agency layoffs until Oct. 15, awaiting the Senate's decision on House Bills 3991 and 3992, which aim to protect 500 Oregon Department of Transport
