WAGGAMAN, La. — A 65-year-old woman was arrested after deputies said she fatally stabbed her husband in a car on Tuesday night in Waggaman, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Carmella Motley of Metairie was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. when deputies responded to a report of a car accident in the 6000 block of Live Oak Blvd. When they arrived, they found an "unresponsive man lying in a ditch near a vehicle," a release said. The man had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.

When deputies found Motley, she told them she was the wife of the victim.

An investigation revealed that an "altercation" between Motley and her husband happened inside the vehicle before he died. A warrant was obtained for her
