EASTPORT -- The coastal city of Eastport, Maine's least-populous city, welcomed one of the largest cruise ships of the season on Wednesday, September 17.
A Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship had people packed in downtown Eastport like sardines, not unlike the industry that once boomed in the coastal city.
"You can tell the size of the ship because the smaller ones are able to dock at the breakwater. This one is offshore and they're tendering people in," said Joan Lowden. "So we've essentially doubled the size of the town for the day."
Lowden, an Eastport resident since 2018, wears many hats for the city. On Wednesday, Lowden was giving a tour of the historic coastal city to people visiting from the cruise ship. She says she'll usually conduct two tours a day.
