A new system in Montgomery County could prevent your home from being stolen via quit claim deed fraud.

A new prevention protocol known as the “Fraud Pre-Check” system will make it harder for scammers to steal people's homes.

All quit claims deeds must now be submitted to the recorder's office first, instead of the deed transfer department.

It will then go to the auditor's office for transfer, then back to the recorder's office.

This is just one small change that's been made since Lori Kennedy took over as county recorder.

"All of the quit claim deeds are now being reviewed extensively in my office,” said Kennedy. "We're checking all the signatures, all the prep statements.
