The National Nuclear Security Administration was "slowly preparing" to depressurize the second of four flanged tritium waste containers Wednesday at Los Alamos National Laboratory, but it was uncertain if the process would go through.

"[NNSA] did not confirm if it would take place today or tomorrow," the New Mexico Environment Department wrote at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a post on X.

The first container was vented Tuesday.

The NNSA did not immediately respond to inquiries about the status of the second container.
