What a rollercoaster this hurricane season has been!
From a slow start, we saw things accelerate in a hurry in August thanks to powerful and record-setting Hurricane Erin. It reached Category 5 status after undergoing extreme rapid intensification on Aug. 16 th north of the Leeward Islands.
Erin lasted another week, but immediately after the hurricane lost its tropical characteristics on Aug. 22 nd , Tropical Storm Fernand developed on the 23 rd . It was a weak system which dissipated on the 28 th .
And that’s when the season took an unexpected turn.
