ROCKFORD, Ill. — Updates on an ambitious Rockford transportation project are coming on Thursday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting the public to a meeting in Rockford to give updates on plans to reestablish passenger train service between Chicago and Rockford.
The meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the RPL Nordlof Center at 118 N. Main St.
Meeting attendees have the chance to learn about the project and give feedback. The event will be in an open-house format, with a video presentation, exhibit boards, and other information available. Staff will also be there to answer questions.
The new service will connect Chicago and Rockford via Elgin, Huntley, and Belvidere, and is scheduled to start in 2027. Travel time between Rockford and the "
