DANBURY, Conn. — A new era of emergency response is sounding off in Danbury , and this time, the alarms are putting first responders' health first.

After decades of using an outdated fire alarm system, Danbury officials have implemented a new modern dispatch system that reduces stress on firefighters’ hearts while improving the speed of information when every second matters.

“We had a multi-decade-old fire alarm system,” said Danbury Fire Captain Jeff Nolet. “The whole point was to wake you up as aggressively as possible.”

That means firefighters are often jolted out of sleep by sudden, blaring alarms - a method that, over time, can take a toll on heart health.
