HARTFORD, Conn. — The fire risk is increasing across Connecticut , according to officials with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Locally, the typical fall wildfire season runs from October through the first widespread snowfall.

This period is known for dry weather and windy conditions. That combined with fallen leaves and increased sunlight reaching and warming the forest floor can raise the chances that a wildfire will occur.

DEEP officials say that almost all wildfires are caused by humans and are therefore preventable, so being aware of fire danger and taking necessary precautions are actions that everyone can do to minimize risk.
