The State Treasurer’s office has officially notified the Superior Court of its appeal to their decision to reinstate ousted Cannabis Control Commission Chair Shannon O’Brien.

O’Brien was suddenly removed from her post without explanation in 2023. A year later she was fired from her job over alleged improprieties at the CCC after an investigation by State Treasurer Deb Goldberg.

The decision was challenged in Suffolk Superior Court and, earlier this month, Judge Robert Gordon ordered the ousted chair returned to her post after finding her removal “was not supported by substantial evidence.”

The Treasurer’s office declined to comment on the newest court filing as court proceedings continue. A stay requested by the Treasurer ahead of her appeal has thus far prevented O’Brien’s return to wo
