GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - ECU Health officials say respiratory viruses and safety are on their radar as the winter season approaches.

Doctors say it’s hard to predict when flu season will peak, but now is a good time to get flu shots or vaccinations. As a precaution, people are urged to wash their hands, cover their coughs, and limit contact with others if they’re feeling sick.

Dr. Jacob Pierce with ECU Health said the number of COVID-19 cases has risen over the past few weeks, but he believes numbers may have leveled out.

“I do think the severity has decreased,” Pierce said. “But the individual symptoms depend on the variant. Sometimes it’s a runny nose, sore throat, it can be variable. The virus is changing week to week, so it’s hard to keep on top of.”
