WATERBURY, Conn. — UConn Health said Wednesday that they will submit a bid to acquire Waterbury Hospital.
The move is part of an effort to "expand access to its high-quality care" and "preserve affordable healthcare" in Connecticut, according to UConn Health Deputy Spokesperson Jennifer Walker.
Waterbury Hospital is currently owned by Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc., which filed for bankruptcy in January . Walker noted UConn Health's aim to support access to healthcare in the affected communities.
With the bid for Waterbury Hospital, UConn Health is also in talks with Bristol and Day Kimball Hospitals. Their plan is to create a network of community hospitals and doctors to ensure widespread access and financial sustainability.
