SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) -- A new retirement community broke ground in Salem on Wednesday.

34 acres of Farmland will soon be transformed into a home for hundreds of seniors, as the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services kicked off construction on its newest development.

The company has four senior living communities across Mahoning and Trumbull counties, but this is its first in Columbiana County.

"Really excited that we were able to come out to this area. We were looking for properties. Our market study showed that this was a great area. There's a lot of residents in the senior population in this area that are looking for that type of service," said Rich Limongi, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services CEO.
