Two motorcycle passengers died Wednesday afternoon in a collision with a dump truck in Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, in the Laurentians.

Police were called to the scene of the collision on Route 117 around 12:15 p.m., said Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

According to initial reports, the truck struck the rear of the motorcycle, which was stopped at a traffic light. The cause of the collision was still under investigation this evening.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, who was taken to hospital, succumbed to her injuries.

The dump truck driver was not injured.

Route 117 was closed while an analysis of the scene was carried out to determine the causes and circumstances of the event.
