TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - In a narrow vote long after business hours on Wednesday, Tallahassee commissioners voted to end its fire contract with Leon County.

The vote ended 3 to 2, with Commissioners Jeremy Matlow and Jack Porter voting against.

Mayor John Dailey, Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox and Commissioner Curtis Richardson voted to send a notice to the county ending the contract.

The decision comes amid a lengthy back-and-forth exchange between the city and county commissions spanning months.

Unless something changes, Leon County will need to start its own fire department or provide firefighting services some other way once the current contract ends in three years.
