MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Gov. Kelly Ayotte's nominee to the New Hampshire Supreme Court, Bryan Gould, was confirmed Wednesday on a 4-1 vote by the Executive Council.

He is expected to be sworn in Thursday.

Gould, 66, will be capped at four years of services due to the mandatory retirement age of 70.

His nomination drew opposition last week from some North Country residents, who pointed to his support for a proposed landfill in Dalton near Forest Lake State Park.

Gould said he would steer clear of cases involving Casella Water Systems and its landfill legal issues if confirmed.
