LUDINGTON, Mich. — The historic steamship SS Badger sustained damage to its stern sea gate Wednesday evening after colliding with its sister ship SS Spartan during a docking procedure at its dock in Ludington, officials said.
The Spartan sits permanently in the Ludington Harbor, near where the Badger docks.
No passengers were injured in the 6:50 p.m. incident involving the two steamships, which are among the last coal-fired passenger vessels operating on the Great Lakes.
Marine engineers are assessing the extent of damage to the SS Badger's sea gate to determine necessary repairs and ensure safe operation of the vessel, according to Lake Michigan Carferry, which operates the ship.
