NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WBRC ) - An investigation is underway into daycare abuse allegations in Northport.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department is looking into abuse claims at The Word Academy.

A state agency contacted the sheriff’s department directly about a possible situation there.

The initial report came in as one child was abused, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department. That investigation is in the early stages and investigators say so far, all parties are cooperating.

The word about The Word Community Church is that at least one child was abused at its daycare academy in late August.
