Danny Kanell said Alabama’s Ty Simpson is in the Heisman Trophy race.

You read that correctly. Kanell, an ACC apologist, joined Crain & Co. and spoke glowingly about the Crimson Tide’s quarterback and his team.

“Ty Simpson, since that FSU game, he’s completing 41-of-46 with several drops,” Kanell said. “That’s almost perfect, which is crazy. And I think he’s very much in play for the Heisman Trophy if he continues at this pace.”

While the former Florida State quarterback had serious reservations about the Tide after the team’s Week 1 loss to Florida State, he believes Alabama is very much in the SEC title hunt.

“I still think Bama can win the SEC, and I don’t think that’s crazy,” Kanell said. “I was hesitant based on the first game, but I also wanted to see how things played out. And n
