A baby girl was found dead in her home after her mother, who had been partying, failed to raise the alarm until it was tragically too late.
Natasha Birks was solely responsible for five-month-old Rhian Mahoney when she placed her on a settee before opening a bottle of vodka and partying with a friend on the eve of her birthday.
However, prosecutors said that the 37-year-old did not adequately check on Rhian and failed to notice that her daughter had not woken up for her middle-of-the-night feed.
By the time paramedics were called, Rhian had already died.
Birks has now been convicted of child cruelty following the heart breaking incident in Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent , in 2021. She is set to be sentenced in December.
