Fairmount Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary in grand fashion this weekend, headlined by Friday's St. Louis Derby, a $250,000 race for 3-year-olds.

There will be cash giveaways and food trucks Friday in addition to the big race. Saturday is family day with games, activities and a chance for children to pet the ponies.

"This milestone is about more than just racing," Fairmont Park general manager Vince Gabbert said. "It's about honoring the generation of fans, horsemen and team members who have made Fairmount Park what it is today."

Fairmount Park, located in Collinsville, began thoroughbred and harness racing in 1926 and has been an east side sports fixture ever since.
