A candlelight vigil for Charlie Kirk will take place on the Boston Common on Thursday night.

The event will commemorate the political activist who was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

As of Thursday morning, more than 1,400 people showed interest in the event posting on Facebook. At least 280 of those people indicated they would attend.

The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. near the Shaw Memorial in front of the State House. Boston police will block off Beacon Street and be present until the end of the vigil at 10 p.m.

The event organizer, Brian Foley, who recently lost a bid for Boston City Council , wrote on Facebook that Thursday “is not just another day for me — it is a day of remembrance.
