LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A 70-year-old man drowned while scuba diving in Jack Creek in Logan County earlier this week.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post that a man from Lamar, in Johnson County, was scuba diving in Jack Creek at the Jack Creek Recreation Area in southern Logan County.

The department said the man was using a metal detector along the bottom of the creek and was wearing a weighted vest in seven to eight feet of water.

The man's brother was on the bank of the creek, but not scuba diving at the time of the incident.

LCSO said the man surfaced, removed his mask and breathing apparatus, gasped for air, and then went underwater. However, he did not come back up, according to the post.
