BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Garfield man has been sentenced to a decade and a half in prison for leaving the scene of a crash that left a teen dead last year, according to court documents.

Gregory Payne, 47, was convicted by a Benton County jury on Sept. 16 for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, driving while intoxicated, third offense, and driving while license canceled, suspended or revoked.

On Sept. 17, Payne was sentenced to 15 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections and ordered to pay a $900 fine. He was credited with 417 days served in the Benton County Detention Center.

Payne was previously facing a negligent homicide charge, which was nolle prossed on Sept. 12, meaning he was no longer prosecuted on that charge. No reason was given for why the charge
